Let me introduce you to...Juice!
The Woodlings started begging sometime around last summer for a small dog (we already have a very large outdoor dog, who is seriously THE best dog EVER!). Mr. Wood was adamant that we were not getting another dog, and he was not going to budge. By the fall his adamant "no" had turned in to a weary "Do you have any idea how much the small dogs they want cost?" And by Christmas time it had turned in to "Maybe for Valentine's Day." One factor in our holding off on an indoor dog was that Mini Mr. Woodling has asthma. And despite his doctor's decision not to allergy test at this point (that's another blog for another day) we're pretty certain that he is allergic to at least some dogs. Case in point, when the Woodlings and I went to visit my parents last Christmas, anytime he spent any amount of time close to their dog he ended up coughing and wheezing. By the last day of our visit I was pretty close to taking him to the hospital, but not long after leaving their house (and with his inhaler) he was much, much better. He tends to do that when we're around most dogs. So, we didn't want to bring a dog in to the house if it was going to bother his breathing. But...we noticed that he never had any problems around a friend's Yorkie.
Well once we realized that, and once Little Miss Woodling turned those Baby Blue Greens on her daddy one last time that, "no"-"Do you have any idea"-"Maybe" turned in to "Let's look and see what we can find."...Although I do have to note that it was said with a sigh that could have won an Oscar for best drama! So the week between Christmas and New Year I set about searching for local Yorkies. I clicked on the first reputable looking link and started reading the woman's bio. As I read through she talked about her daughter and grandson, naming them by first name only. Well, their first names were VERY familiar to me, so I asked Mr. Wood if he recognized the woman's name. Turns out...she is his college roommate's mom!!!
So, the next day we gave her a call, loaded up after a day at Sea World, and headed to meet the newest member of our family. On the way we debated names. I personally wanted to name the dog Kitty, just so I could say "Here Kitty" and have people look at me crazy when a dog came running. Lots of other crazy names were thrown out before Mr. Wood and Little Miss Woodling settled on "Juice." We figured since the money to buy him comes from citrus, it was only fitting!
Once we got there we were shown two male puppies from the same litter. There was the sweetest, most docile little thing that came right over to me and laid down in my lap. He just sat there and let me love on him the whole time we were there. I just knew I had found our "Juice." Wrong! Hubby and the Woodlings had honed in on the other little boy. You know, "the one." The one that was chasing all the other puppies biting them, dragging his sister around by her ear (literally) and hanging from the curtains (again, I'm being literal here)!! They decided that if he was going to be a Wood, he was going to have to be tough! So, we deemed the wild child "Juice" and were on our way home.
I would like to say that in the 3 months we've had him he's settled down and become the docile, loving, snuggle buddy I was so looking forward to. But...that would be a big ole' lie!!! He's still wild as ever. Still chasing the Woodlings around biting them. Still dragging whatever he can get his teeth into around the house. And still hanging from the curtains! But to be honest, we wouldn't have him any other way.
